About Thoughts of a Laymen
Thoughts of a Layman is an independent publication launched in December 2024 by me (Ron Appleton). It's a place where I can post things of interest away from social media where I can concentrate better, and it makes a nice place I can come back to to see what I was thinking and when, like a journal of sorts.
About Me
At this time, I am a 40-something male born and bred in the UK (Britain) and I'm quite patriotic which is a challenge in the last 20 years as political parties seem to have moved more towards running PR than running a country.
I am a family man at my core, I have kids and grandkids and my father very much baked into me the need to provide for your family, so I am always trying to provide as much as I can for my family which often leaves me absent of free time, fortunately, I have a great Wife and family which makes the effort worthwhile.
I come with a lot of life experience, over time my jobs have included all manner of things, from working in an insurance agency, making candles, working in a cinema, selling menswear, installing explosion-proof machinery and computer networks, delivering Chinese fast food, working in the care system, dog food factories, picking and packing in farms, making coat hangers for Kensington palace.
At some point, I realised I was not on the best track for providing for my family. Hence, I got my head down and worked on my greatest interest which is computer programming and backend web development which is the arena I am in today and very much intend to stay.
Politically I am very much an advocate of proportional representation, there's no such thing as a top-notch politician that I have ever seen, so I think they all should be given a fair shot at making our lives better/bearable, I strongly dislike partisan politics but am a realist in this environment and so I tend to vote for Labour.
I am in no way religious, brought up in a methodist church I could have been but I am smart enough to understand morals and ethics are the only things everyone should believe in (IMHO), centralised religion doesn't serve anyone in my book Other than those religious organisations, if we all just treated people how we want to be treated where would be the need?
I am not the best wordsmith, but one thing you can be sure of is that every opinion is my own, I am not a sheep, and I don't discriminate, I firmly believe that we are all made of blood and guts and that's enough for me, be who you want to be so your mothers and fathers can bathe in your happiness!
Well now you have a pretty good picture of me, I hope this helps your decision to read my layman's thoughts or not, if you do, enjoy!
